Diving into a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and players have encountered plenty of engaging creations from small studios. But, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure includes a protagonist that is actually a turd trying to navigate to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

Player controls is simple: press a single jump button. In 150 stages, you'll face tough enemies and visit a store to acquire skins for your poop character.

Execute your actions precisely, since one wrong move forces restarting the level. Leap on bubbles to launch the poop upward, traverse disappearing platforms, and interact with switches to open secret routes. Collect coins and use them on more difficult stages as things gets crazy.

In terms of design, the game shows off eye-catching stages and an amazing background music. Its minimalist graphics with moving abstract forms may remind players of beloved games like Earthbound.

While it's hard to think of previous releases where you play as a coiled turd, gaming frequently included scatological themes. For example, in Death Stranding, you can create explosives from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, such content shows up extensively in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already earned notable recognition, including being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is ready currently on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to debut on PC this November.
