Springfield's Favorite Family Makes Its Debut in Rocket League: Unfortunately Not the Car Fans Are Dreaming Of

It was previously announced that The Simpsons was teaming up with Fortnite, but that's not the only place where enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the universe of Springfield. The long-running series is coming over to Rocket League, introducing an in-game car skin that will also be compatible in the Fortnite universe. However, whether players will truly desire to equip it is a different matter, as there's only one Simpsons vehicle everyone is itching to drive, and this isn't it.

The Dream Vehicle

Although most players would absolutely enjoy to face off behind the wheel of Homer's custom creation—the famously flawed automobile Homer built personally in the 1991 installment "the one where he meets Herb"—that's not what players are receiving. Not even getting the Canyonero, the heavy-duty truck showcased in the tenth season. Instead, players are getting the Simpsons' standard well-worn sedan, which has been in the family since the show's early days. Though this particular car has seen better days, it remains an iconic symbol of the series. And for players who pay attention to the game's car hitboxes, the Simpson family car shares the identical collision model as the Dominus body type.

More Than Just a Car

But that's not the only cosmetic from the series coming to Rocket League. This limited-time event will additionally feature a series of objectives to earn additional goodies, all of which are inspired by the show. As detailed in a official announcement, the missions will require players to "get as many centers and clears as there are The Simpsons years on air, collect boost pickups as if your navigation is set to The Simpsons’ house, and drive a distance worthy of picking up the perfect donuts!"

Although the complete list of challenge rewards hasn't been revealed, here is what's been announced so far:

  • Blinky antenna topper
  • Homer's hedge-themed banner
  • Garbage-themed wheels
  • 20,000 experience points for each challenge

Based on promotional images is any indication, it seems players will also receive wheels with a TV displaying the show's title sequence, Kang and Kodos topper, a frosted doughnut trail, and boost effects themed to burning tires and Krusty's famous restaurant.

Event Timing and Fortnite Connection

This event coincides with the extensive Simpsons invasion of Fortnite, which includes a completely new playable area of Springfield, in addition to a month-long seasonal progression system. This special Rocket League and Simpsons event begins on Saturday, Nov. 1 and concludes on Nov. 17.
