Youth Discovered Deceased Following Untrue Accusations of Taking Cremated Remains
A 14-year-old boy was discovered deceased only a few days following being falsely accused of stealing the ashes of a deceased infant during a break-in, an inquest has learned.
Tragic Finding
The young boy's mother and father found his body in his room at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.
False Accusations Start
The inquest learned how his mother received a communication on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual asking if her son was her child. The communication added: "Inform him thanks for breaking into my flat."
In a testimony presented to the proceedings, the mother said the woman had been in the media, asserting her baby's ashes had been taken in a burglary - a claim which was false.
Law Enforcement Inquiry
An investigation report from police later determined the alleged burglary victim had "lied to police" and "it now appears that said items was not taken in the first place".
News coverage about the alleged taken ashes attracted social media comments, and although Kai was not identified in the posts, his parent said people "understood it was him".
The "online posts were extremely distressing", she said.
Emotional Wellbeing Effect
She explained that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' opinions genuinely were important to him.
"This must have affected him severely," she commented, "particularly when this was untrue".
Kai was arrested at his residence, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a police station and later freed pending further inquiry.
Authorities said they would be in touch, the inquest heard, but had failed to contacted the family by the moment of his passing.
Withdrawal and Worry
His parent said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could feel like days".
When she spoke to him about the alleged burglary, she said her child told her he had entered the residence because the resident who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he wanted, but refuted removing anything.
Online Harassment
In a combined testimony between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being harassed online after the accusations.
The proceedings learned that one young adult encouraged the teenager to kill himself.
She had no worries on the evening before he passed away, describing how she had heard him "chuckling and joking".
She described him as a "compassionate, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".
He had been "obviously hiding his worries", she said, adding that he could not stand to have anybody "think bad of him".
School Reaction
The hearing heard from school staff at the local High School.
On November 8th, she "heard some students talking that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I heard".
"He told me... he'd was innocent," she added.
After the discussion, the educator said she rang Kai's family telephone and provided a message saying she had spoken to the student about the allegations.
The court learned his parents said they never receive that communication.
Official Finding
Senior investigator told the hearing he would wait for reports regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with individuals with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future deaths report.
Delivering a descriptive conclusion, he said: "Around 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old individual.
"Likely falsehoods were afterwards exaggerated and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.
"During November 11th, he was questioned by the police and after his interview he was freed while investigations continued."
The coroner concluded: "Exists no proof that the actions or omissions of any agency caused or added to his passing and although it was the outcome of a personal action it is impossible to determine his intent."
