Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson revealed he came dangerously close to a life-threatening collision during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two marshals darted across the track right in his path

The alarming incident happened on the third circuit when marshals were observed on the racing surface as Lawson was rejoining the race following an early pitstop to swap his broken nose section

Competitor's Live Reaction

Moments later, Racing Bulls driver Lawson radioed to his team engineer saying: "Is this for real? Did you just see that? I could have... killed them"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was witnessing"

"I rejoined with a fresh hard compound tires, and then I approached Turn One and there were just two dudes running across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, truthfully, it was so dangerous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Evidently there's been a communication breakdown somehow but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a live track track officials can be allowed to just dash across the track like that. I don't understand the reason, I'm sure we'll get some form of reasoning, but it really can't happen again"

Official Investigation Underway

Formula 1's governing body, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is currently investigating the circumstances

"Subsequent to a first corner event, track officials was notified that wreckage remained on the track at the turning point of that curve" declared the governing body

"In the third rotation, marshals were notified and placed on standby to enter the track and remove the wreckage once all cars had passed"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had entered the pits, the directives to deploy marshals were withdrawn and a safety warning flag was raised in that zone"

"Our inquiry continues what transpired after that point"
