Football Recap: Broncos Edge Struggling Jets in Low-Scoring Battle
During a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Denver Broncos clinched a 13-11 victory over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the late go-ahead field goal to seal the hard-fought win.
Dominant Performance Wins Contest
Even with registering nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after conceding a safety in the third quarter. Remarkably, the Jets could only produce just 82 offensive yards during the contest.
Nix, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Lutz's short kick with approximately five minutes left.
Record Difficulties for Jets Offense
In spite of their dismal offensive display, the Jets still had the ball with a chance to drive for a possible victory. However Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it instead of calling on kicker Nick Folk for a difficult field-goal attempt.
The Jets quarterback had difficulties throughout, connecting on just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York finished with negative ten passing yards, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," Glenn commented after the game.
