Wonder Man Preview Unveils Marvel's Most Meta Series Ever

The Marvel studio has heard that viewers might be experiencing some superhero fatigue, so they've opted to incorporate that very idea into their next superhero show.

Indeed, the first trailer for Wonder Man has arrived, and it pledges a meta twist on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The preview, which debuted on October 10th, also quietly pushed the Wonder Man launch date back from its original end of 2025 slot into early 2026.

Why another superhero film? Everyone is weary of superheroes. Why watch them in the cinema? Wonder Man spoke to me on a profound level. There is an chance to surprise viewers. To reinvent the whole genre of storytelling.

The reporter responds: "Have you considered about casting?"

The trailer then cuts to lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who's viewing the interview on his phone, and the preview concludes.

Key Details Regarding Wonder Man

We were previously aware that Wonder Man would be a meta take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show features Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, a film star who becomes a superhero (Wonder Man).

The rest of the cast includes actor Ben Kingsley returning as Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery, Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams (aka Grim Reaper), Ed Harris as Simon's manager Neal Saroyan, and Arian Moayed returning as Department of Damage Control agent P. Cleary.

Marvel's Meta-Humor Approach

We don't know much else about the storyline of Wonder Man, but it's clear that the studio intends to laugh at its own tropes.

In the aftermath of Deadpool & Wolverine, it appears like the studio is all in on self-referential comedy. Will that work without the star power of its previous leads? We'll have to wait and see.
